COVID-19 has become a global pandemic putting enormous pressure on the public health system to test, treat and keep people alive.

COVID-19 is caused by a novel coronavirus. There are many unknowns about how the virus affects people and how the disease should be best treated and managed.

 Current data estimates that
1 in 10 people with COVID-19 will require admission to hospital, 1 in 50 will need intensive care and 1 in 200 will die.

About us

We are a collaborative team working to save lives by improving how COVID-19 is managed and treated in the Australian community and in its health systems.

Our team is led by the Queensland University of Technology, University of Sydney, Monash University and supported by the Digital Health Cooperative Research Centre, although we have many research collaborators working with us from hospitals, research institutions, and universities across the country.

We are establishing a national digital platform for analysing COVID-19 patient data called the COVID-19 Clinical Data Analytics Platform (CDAP). The CDAP will capture information about symptoms, treatment, laboratory and imaging data, and health outcomes. Collating, analysing and understanding this data from patients across the country will help frontline clinicians to better manage patients with COVID-19.

Working with community

The CDAP project team is working closely with the community to ensure the platform meets the needs of the Australian public. We regularly meet with a national COVID-19 Community Reference Group via video conference to ensure community members are involved in the design and implementation of the project.

This national reference group is led and supported by the Telethon Kids Institute in Perth, Western Australia and has 20 experienced members from across Australia to provide advice and guidance on a range of projects. Improving outcomes for COVID-19 patients and the Australian public is our focus, and we believe that continuous community involvement in the CDAP is essential for its success.
